Rhodochrosite
The Colorado State mineral is Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine, an old and formerly abandoned silver mine in Alma, Colorado. Remining for specimens in the 1990s yielded incredible examples of sharp, rhombohedral rhodochrosite, that now sets the world standard. Sharp crystals like these were only rarely seen with accompanying fluorite such as this juicy grape-juice-purple crystal here from the"Four-Ball Pocket."
Formerly in the collection of mathemetician Steve Smale.
7-inch specimen.
This painting is displayed in the BLACK frame.
