A Star Shines In Texas

The following are additional photos taken from the August 29, 2010 Grand Opening of the Arkenstone's new location. The original email story on BlueCap's trip to this special event can be read here.

Your first view as you enter the Gallery

A side room off of the Entry Room shown above

Once you go through the double-doors at the end of the Entry Room, you come into the Cabinet Room

Walking to the end of the Cabinet Room, you see that it goes on into the Display Room.
Here is Jolyon Ralph from MinDat.org examining a new book on Brazilian minerals

One of many fiber optic display cases in the Display Room.

A display cabinet at the end of the Display Room.

One of the many mini display cabinets in the Cabinet Room.

Another mini display cabinet in the Cabinet Room.

Yet another mini display cabinet in the Cabinet Room.

It keeps going and going and going.

Kind of like a Mini Tucson!!!

Of course, we HAVE to show the blue cap tourmaline from the Tourmaline Queen Mine. My father
found these 40 years ago and it is after these specimens that I named my company.

Dinner in one of the ballrooms at the nearby DoubleTree Hotel.

The Vug and Mineralogical Record people.

There's Jolyon again with Gail Spann who hosted a fantastic Sunday Brunch
the following day. Unfortunately I was unable to attend.

And here's the other Spann. Jim Spann and Wally Mann.

Gail and Kevin Brown.

Gene Meieran taking about the American Mineral Treasures exhibit.

Harrison "Jack" Schmitt talking about being the last man to step foot on the moon.
That's Jack in the background wearing his full astronaut gear as he's strolling on the moon.
You know, it's one thing to know that man has walked on the moon and it's another thing to
actually meet one of the twelve people in the world who have actually done it. I had the great
pleasure of interviewing Jack in New Mexico for the American Mineral Treasures DVD and it
was one of the most interesting hours of my life to just sit there and ask him any question that came to mind.

Our Host for the evening, Rob Lavinsky with George Elling, Jack Schmitt, Gene Meieran and Jim Gibbs.
